Medical Device Manufacturing

Specializing in Orthopedic Implant & Medical Instrument Components

Service Description

James Spring & Wire provides customized medical device component manufacturing to a wide range of biotech industries. Whether the parts are used in medical monitoring equipment or critical implants, we provide the highest quality products available. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing shop allows us total quality control over the manufacturing of your spring or wire form.

In addition to the latest computerized design, inspection and CNC fabricating equipment, James Spring & Wire has a complete tool and die shop. Since we don’t have to rely on outside vendors for specialized tooling, all design and manufacturing of components like spinal implant rods, wire forms, springs, clips, fasteners, and medical stylets are made right here in our facility.

Passivated springs play a prominent role in medical spring manufacturing. The purpose of passivation is to remove any surface contaminants picked up during the manufacturing process — which is why it’s particularly important to the medical industry. Custom passivated springs are used to ensure stainless steel is clean enough for any medical application, whether used in drug delivery, pill production, or surgeon’s tools.

James Spring & Wire is ISO-registered and experienced with the exotic materials often needed in the medical industry. We can also perform qualifying testing services as required, including IQ, OQ, and PQ.

Service Experience

James Spring & Wire has extensive experience serving the medical device and biotech industries, bringing deep knowledge of the exotic materials, tight tolerances, and stringent cleanliness standards that medical applications demand. Our complete in-house tool and die shop — combined with the latest CNC fabricating and inspection equipment — gives us total control over every stage of the manufacturing process.

From spinal implant components and orthopedic hardware to surgical instrument springs and drug delivery mechanisms, our team has the experience and capability to take on even the most technically demanding medical device programs. We are ISO-registered, familiar with qualifying validation processes, and equipped to support the documentation requirements that medical manufacturers and biotech companies require.

Client Benefits

Medical device manufacturers and biotech companies choose James Spring & Wire for our combination of in-house manufacturing control, exotic material expertise, and rigorous quality systems. By handling tooling, fabrication, passivation, and testing entirely within our own facility, we eliminate the variability and lead-time risk that comes with relying on outside vendors — giving medical customers a single, accountable source for their most critical components.

Components are manufactured under controlled production systems to customer drawings and specifications. Dimensional inspection, documentation, and material traceability support production for medical assemblies — giving medical OEMs and biotech companies the confidence that every component meets the exacting standards their applications demand.

Key Features

Our medical device components are precision-manufactured under controlled conditions for the full spectrum of medical and biotech applications — from orthopedic and spinal assemblies to surgical instruments, drug delivery systems, and external fixation devices.

APPLICATIONS SUPPORTED

Spinal implant rods, medical stylets, orthopedic components, external fixation devices, surgical instrument springs, drug delivery mechanisms, pill production components, and other medical-grade wire forms, clips and fasteners.

MATERIALS AVAILABLE

Stainless steel, phosphor bronze, high-performance alloys, spring-tempered wires, and Elgiloy® — a non-magnetic, high-strength alloy with exceptional corrosion resistance and formability that performs across a wide range of temperatures and medical applications.

PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES

Prototype, short-run builds, and full production volumes — all manufactured in-house with complete control over tooling, forming, finishing, and inspection. Lead time depends on geometry, material, tooling and finish.

VALUE-ADDED SERVICES

In-house tool and die, CNC fabrication, passivation, qualifying testing services (IQ, OQ, PQ), assembly, and kitting — all performed in our facility without reliance on outside vendors for specialized tooling or processes.

ELGILOY® SPRINGS

James Spring & Wire is proud to offer Elgiloy® springs — an extremely high-strength alloy that simultaneously maintains corrosion resistance and formability. Elgiloy® is a non-magnetic alloy that performs well across a wide range of temperatures, making it an ideal material choice for demanding medical, aerospace, and industrial applications where standard stainless steels may fall short.

Frequently Asked Questions

We provide components used in medical instruments, orthopedic and spinal assemblies, external fixation devices, and other healthcare-related mechanisms where precision and small size matter.

Common materials include stainless steel, phosphor bronze, high-performance alloys, spring-tempered wires, and Elgiloy®. Finishes may include passivation or other treatments to support cleanliness, reliability and corrosion resistance.

Key considerations include size constraints, biocompatibility and contact-safety requirements, fatigue life for instrument cycles, repeatability, tolerance demands, assembly fit, and finishing cleanliness.

We support prototyping, short-run builds, and production volumes. Lead time depends on geometry, material, tooling and finish. Project scale and requirements determine ramp-up timing.

Components are manufactured under controlled production systems to customer drawings and specifications. Dimensional inspection, documentation, and material traceability support production for medical assemblies.

Yes — we can provide tooling, spring and wire form shaping, stamping, finishing operations including passivation, assembly, and kitting services to support medical component supply-chain needs.
